The Designer Behind the Brand

​Anna Ehrler is the designer of Errant, one of the brands that Agent R.E.D. International represents. We wanted to learn more about the person behind the incredible brand. Anna has always been a creative spirit, she studied photography and sculpture at the University of New Mexico for five years before her path took her to Chicago where she received her BFA in fashion. “Being a broke college student, I thrifted most of my clothes, and learned quickly that with a pair of scissors in mind, you could make some pretty great things!” When Anna moved to Chicago, she continued her education at DePaul University studying Liberal Arts. Before beginning her third semester there, Anna visited a Columbia College with a friend who was checking out their product design program. “We accidentally got off the elevator on the wrong floor, which happened to be the fashion department… and just like that, I knew I wanted to study fashion, it was a gut instinct. I withdrew from DePaul University that week and applied to Columbia. I graduated with a BFA a couple years later, already working as an Indie designer, creating my own pieces and selling them through a fashion collective in Wicker Park.” Anna’s creative process is very organic… she wants to offer somewhat classic, yet elevated silhouettes, that are clean, contemporary and unique, but still very easy to wear. Her upcoming release of products is Resort, which is a crossover season between Fall/Winter and Pre-spring. “I started out choosing textured, cozy knits, terries, and soft rayon and cotton jersey that can be layered, dressed up or down, and crossover to both a Fall/Winter - Pre-spring Season. My color palette and tie dyes I developed also reflect this idea of blending of seasons.” Here are some of Anna’s favorite items from the Fall II release in each fabrication…

We asked Anna what her vision was for her lookbook photo shoot. “I am a nature girl at heart, I grew up on a farm, and I hike most weekends. I love that Errant is easy to wear, and our colors and tie dyes are inspired by the colors and textures found in nature. Errant in essence of the word, evokes a wanderlust vibe and I wanted to shoot in an open coastal prairie location that evoked a feeling of a place you might see while traveling or on vacation.” Anna scouted the location and loved all of the flowers and the vast open spaces. She knew Errant’s color palette would look beautiful with the natural background. 

When asked what makes Errant special, Anna replied, “unique, elevated pieces that are ethically made, make you feel good wearing them and easy to live in.” The girl Anna envisions to dress is someone who is artsy, independent and privy to social issues. “I love that Errant can be worn by youngsters in their teens, to women in their fifties and sixties!” Some celebrities Anna would love to dress are Tavi Gevinson, Juliette Lewis, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley. Anna described her own style as artsy, clean, comfortable and contemporary. “I am the Errant girl who backpacks wearing a dress and goes to a rock show wearing one of our jumpers! Definitely an Errant girl, just need to get out of the office and feed that inner wanderlust of mine more often!”
